In June 2007, TRI-Cap joined with Barwell PLC and Scottish Enterprise to invest nearly £1 million in Bellshill-based Lamellar Biomedical, pioneer of new treatments for cystic fibrosis and other respiratory diseases.
Lamellar Biomedical has been set up to commercialise the research findings of Dr James Dobbie, who has used electron microscopy to gain an insight into the body’s secretory systems. Dr Dobbie’s discovery of substances known as lamellar bodies has led to the company’s planned development of treatments for respiratory diseases such as cystic fibrosis.

A pilot study demonstrates more fish vaccinated with Lamellasomes + vaccine survived than those vaccinated with the vaccine alone. This is seen as an encouraging but preliminary result.
