TRI Cap Portfolio - SPHINX MEDICAL
TRI Cap led an initial funding round for Sphinx Medical Limited which raised £600,000. The deal was completed in partnership with the Scottish Investment Bank’s Co-Investment Fund and the company’s management. The company will focus on the development, manufacture and distribution of silicone implantable devices for the management of severe incontinence.
Sphinx’s initial product is a revolutionary artificial anal sphincter (AAS), which introduces patented technology to allow long term implantations without complications. The device has been issued with a CE mark and the procedure has gained recognition from NICE. The company’s second device is a urinary sphincter that introduces significant benefits over existing devices for both the patient and the surgeon. Both devices were conceived in the UK by leading surgeons.
The company has built a dedicated manufacturing facility at its site in Bellshill, Lanarkshire and is planning to start shipment of the devices in early 2012. The company believes there will be significant demand for the devices across the globe with over 90% of production being exported.
