Rob Dick, TRI Cap’s chairman, attended (along with Kathy Greenwood and Jamie Andrew) the recent LINC/YCF Conference held at the University of Stirling. Here is his brief analysis of the event:
The star of a number of excellent speakers was undoubtedly John Houston from the US, the leader of Ohio Angels with 280 angelinvestors: a group run on remarkably similar lines to TRI Cap.
John’s presentation included some excellent guidance which we might consider applying to ourselves. Of particular interest were: the granting of options in investee companies to those who carry out pre-investment due diligence; being hard on second round funders; ‘don’t let the CEO lead an exit’; minimise dilution by going for grants and loans. Some elements we already do, some we ought to do- or do better!
Full marks to Jonathan Harris of YCF, now part of the LINC organisation, for an excellently organised Conference with a very stimulating and relevant programme.
