BERWICK ON TWEED SEMINAR FOR TRI CAP
TRI Cap took a lead role in a business event held earlier this month in Berwick upon Tweed: “Business Angels and Venture Capital – What’s Happening Locally?” was organised by local Chartered Accountants Greaves West & Ayre to provide an understanding of the part organisations like TRI Cap can play in supporting local business growth. Rob Dick, Chairman, and Jamie Andrew, Core Member, gave a presentation on TRI Cap, how it operates and what it has to offer both potential investors and investee businesses.
“This was a very successful event targeted at pre start up and established businesses for which venture capital or angel investment may prove to be their best means of raising capital,” says Rob Dick. “Around 30 delegates attended, amongst them some potential investors and others looking to finance a business.”
TRI Cap members Ian Douglas and Julian Livingstone also provided support and encouragement, and helped to answer questions from the audience. The event was chaired by GWA senior partner Andrew Ayre and other speakers included Jane Ridley from Newcastle-based angel group Entrust (http://www.entrust.co.uk/news.asp?ID=82–) a larger and longer standing organisation than TRI Cap but one with similar objectives. Also presenting was Hazel Smith, a partner in GWA who spoke eloquently about the taxation position regarding angel type investment.
