TRI Cap Member Profile - Matthew Alsop
A Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA), Matthew Alsop has been a TRI Cap member since early 2010. Matthew brings with him a strong background in commerce: born in Doncaster, he began his career working for Rolls-Royce in the North East of England.
He later moved abroad and gained extensive international experience in Austria and India before finally returning to the UK and settling in Scotland. He now lives with his family in East Lothian.
"I have worked with a range of operations from high tech mass production through to complex heavy engineering," says Matthew, "fulfilling diverse roles, from finance director to senior sales positions."
Matthew has also built experience in companies ranging in size from large multinationals (Rolls-Royce, VA TECH) to smaller VC backed business (Worldmark)
"Scotland has always had a great bedrock of people with ideas," says Matthew, "but they then need the seed capital to get those ideas off the ground and moving towards commercialisation. I joined TRI Cap because I feel I have something to offer companies in this position: I have a wealth of good practical finance and commercial experience to help our investee companies through the very challenging early stages, especially in managing their cash.
"I was attracted to join TRI Cap because I see it as a well organised syndicate with an active interest in looking at a variety of different types of business."
At home in East Lothian, Matthew enjoys biking with the family. He also supports a local community bakery project (http://dunbarcommunitybakery.org.uk/).
