TRI Cap Member Profile - Tom Hart
With a long career which spans senior positions across a range of sectors including IT, distribution, financial services, travel, tourism and leisure, Tom Hart brings a wealth of experience to the TRI Cap table. Being a Chartered Accountant and having worked for businesses ranging from SMEs to multinational corporations, he also understands the realities faced by businesses of all sizes.
An experienced business angel, Tom joined TRI Cap in 2009, attracted primarily by the club atmosphere of the organisation. “It’s enjoyable and rewarding to be involved with a group of people with whom I feel a great affinity,” says Tom, “and where both risk and reward are shared, ensuring those seeking investment can achieve the sums they need. I have also found membership extends my professional network while bringing my contacts and expertise to bear for the benefit of the syndicate and the companies we invest in.”
A native of Teesside, Tom spent more than 20 years living in Scotland, during which time he played lead roles with Adobe Systems, McQueen International and Sykes Enterprises. Currently Tom serves as a non-executive director with TRI Cap investee company Factonomy Ltd and is regional director of NXD Limited. This is in addition to being a director of his professional services company, Eildon Management Ltd, through which he also provides asset finance. He also sits on the Scottish Government’s Accessible Tourism Group and is treasurer of the Scottish Borders Tourism Partnership.
Tom divides his time between the North East of England, the Borders and Edinburgh where he devotes time to his family – he has children in both Scotland and south of the border - and maintains an active involvement with a number of high-profile businesses. He still manages to find time for leisure interests including ballroom and Latin dance (he is a former British Internationalist), rugby and football. There’s even the odd game of squash, when knees allow.
